L-BF spikers sweep ME to open season

 

Littlefork Big-Falls’ volleyball team played better as the evening progressed Thursday night when the Vikings opened the season winning a road match against Mesabi East in three straight games, 25-18, 25-10, 25-5.

“For the first match, it went pretty well,” said L-BF head coach Sarah Bradley, who also noted the team started off “sloppy” and then got better.

Statistical leaders for the Vikings included: Brooke Millerbernd, four aces, eight digs and seven kills; Abby Thompson, nine kills and three blocks; Chelsey Ziemba, three aces; and Emily Knaeble, 16 set assists.

International Falls also opened the season Thursday with a road match victory.

The Falls beat Mountain Iron-Buhl in four games, 23-25, 25-19, 25-19, 25-20.  

 

Elementary school football sign-up

 

There will be a sign-up for fifth- and sixth-graders interested in playing football this fall on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. at the Bronco Arena Lobby. 

The fee is $20. For free and reduced lunch participants, the fee is $10.

Bronco HOF meeting

 

The group involved with forming the Bronco Athletic Hall of Fame will hold its first meeting for 2012-13 at 7:30 p.m. Monday in Room 212 at Falls High School.

Following last spring’s inaugural induction of nine individuals — seven former players and two coaches — into the Hall of Fame, the group is planning in subsequent years to honor up to four inductees nominated as athletes, coaches/directors/advisors, at-large members or teams.

Hall of Fame selection committee member Timm Ringhofer said anyone interested is invited to Monday’s meeting.

 

Bronco baseball night golf fundraiser set

 

The Bronco baseball program will hold a night golf fundraiser Sept. 1 at the Falls Country Club to raise money for the Scheela Field improvement project.

A silent auction and golf will begin at 8:30 p.m. with the field limited to the first 72 paid participants, who will be able to sign up in the pro shop for the four-person team, nine-hole scramble with no handicaps required.

The $40 entry fee include hors d’oeuvres and golf. Balls will be provided, but participants should bring a flashlight.
