Estling selected for MCAC All-State team
Rainy River Community College sophomore setter Nakita Estling has been named to the 2012 Minnesota College Athletic Conference’s All-State Volleyball Second Team.
Estling, who also was an MCAC All-Northern Division First Team selection, recorded 632 set assists for an average of 6.58 assists per game in 96 games this season.
Estling, who is from Warroad, tallied 1,430 career set assists in her two seasons with the Voyageurs. She was one of two sophomore volleyball players to have used their final year of eligibility at RRCC.
Teams of Corrin, Blais to face off Nov. 10-11
Willie Corrin, a 2010 Falls High School graduate who has appeared in two games this season as a defenseman for the University of Minnesota Duluth men’s hockey team, has the team coached by his uncle on the schedule next weekend.
The Bulldogs, who are 2-3-1 overall and 0-1-1 in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association, are off this weekend before their two-game WCHA series Nov. 10-11 at Nebraska-Omaha, which is coached by Dean Blais, a Falls native and the brother of Corrin’s mother, Jeanne.
Corrin, who is in his freshman year of eligibility and one of eight defensemen on UMD’s roster, saw action in home games Oct. 13 against Ohio State and Oct. 26 against Wisconsin.
Bronco HOF meeting
The group involved with forming the Bronco Athletic Hall of Fame has its next meeting scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 14 in Room 212 at Falls High School.
A banquet is being planned for April 20 at the AmericInn to honor the next group of inductees, which includes two former coaches — Frank “Butch” Larson and Walt Scheela — two hockey players — Mike “Lefty” Curran and Neil Sheehy — and the 1964-65 Bronco boys hockey team, which won the state title with a perfect record of 27-0.
