Ben Line repeats as drag racing champ
A drag racer from International Falls has become a repeat champion in the Bracket Drag Racing Series at the Brainerd International Raceway.
In Stock/Super Stock class, Ben Line continued to dominate. He won his fifth series championship in the last six years and now has two wins in a row.
Going into the final series race last weekend, Line was comfortably in first place, with his brother, Lance Line of Cromwell, in second.
Neither competed last weekend, which opened the door for Glen Demenge of McGregor, who was in third place. Driving a 1969 Camaro, Demenge beat Don Anderson in Sunday’s finals, which moved him into second place ahead of Lance Line.
Boys hockey head coach on agenda
The hiring of Bruce Elson for a second season as the Bronco boys hockey head coach will be up for consideration when the International Falls Board of Education meets at 5 p.m. Monday.
Elson, a physical education teacher in the district, compiled a 15-12 record for the 2011-12 school year in his first season as the Bronco boys head coach. He had previously been Falls’ girls hockey head coach for three seasons from 2006-09.
Except for the Bronco boys baseball head coach position, which became vacant last month following the retirement of Vic Heinlen, Falls Athletic Director Don Rolando said the boys hockey position is the district’s only other head coaching job yet to be approved by the board for the 2012-13 school year.
Last month, district residents and students presented petitions asking the board to rehire Ross Johnson as an assistant boys hockey coach for 2012-13. Those petitions are also listed on Monday’s board agenda.
