L-BF spikers sweep Northland, now 5-0

 

The winning ways of Littlefork-Big Falls’ volleyball team continued Thursday night when the Vikings improved to 5-0 for the season with a road match victory in three straight games over Northland, 25-10, 25-15, 25-15.

Statistical leaders for L-BF included: Emily Knaeble, 18 set assists; Brooke Millerbernd, three aces, six kills; Abby Thompson, six aces, eight kills; DyAna Imhof, three aces, five kills; and Courtney Pfeifer, 13 digs.

The Vikings will be seeking their sixth victory in as many matches Tuesday at Ely. 

 

Falls spikers pick up match win at Cherry

 

International Falls’ volleyball team snapped a two-match losing streak Thursday by winning at Cherry in four games, 25-22, 21-25, 25-21, 25-23.

Broncos head coach Erin Shikowsky called the win “a complete team effort.”

“It all started with our passing and our defense,” she said. “We passed and we dug better than we have all year. That allowed us to run our offense.”

Falls’ statistical leaders included: Reva Renollet, 24 digs, 14 set assists; Savanna Stratton, 12 set assists; Shawna Misner, 18 digs; Tessa Walls, 10 kills, three ace serves; Olivia Santee, two ace blocks, 20 digs, eight kills; and Sara Christianson, 14 digs.

The victory improves the Broncos’ season record to 3-2.

Falls returns to action next Thursday with a home match against Greenway.

 

Falls girls swim team wins in dual at E-G

 

International Falls’ girls swimming and diving team picked up its first dual meet victory of the season Thursday winning on the road against Eveleth-Gilbert, 57-45.

“The meet went very well,” said Broncos head coach Jill Herzig, who also called the victory “a great morale booster for us.”

The meet initially was scheduled at Falls High School, where the swimming pool is presently unavailable, and ended up being moved to Eveleth-Gilbert’s pool, which has four lanes and is 20 yards long.

Falls junior Breanna Shofner was part of four first-place finishes. She won the 60- and 100-yard freestyle in 34.46 seconds and 1:01.72, respectively, and was part of two winning relays, the 160 medley relay (1:42.7) and 160 freestyle relay (1:30.02).

Broncos senior Sarah Todd won the 100 butterfly (1:17.31) and finished runner-up in the 160 individual medley (2:07.7).

Other individual top finishes for the Falls included:  Emily Saari, 100 breaststroke (1:21.21); and Clara Wenger, diving (138.95 points). 

The Broncos also had runner-up finishes from: Blair Johnson, 200 freestyle (2:29.49); Kari Arnold, 500 freestyle (6:53.37); Courtney Klow, 100 backstroke (1:12.19); and a 400 freestyle relay team (4:31.27).
