District Junior League tourney starts July 19
Falls’ Junior League baseball team will begin the District 4 Junior League Tournament next Thursday.
Greenway — which is hosting the four-team, double-elimination tournament at Bovey Field — plays the Falls at 2 p.m. Thursday.
The winner will play at 5 p.m. Friday against the winner of the other opening tournament game between Itasca and Hibbing. The loser moves to the losers’ bracket to face the loser of those two teams at 2 p.m. Friday.
The tournament continues July 21 with the losers’ bracket game at noon and the finals at 3 p.m. If another game is necessary to determine the champion, it would be played at noon on July 22.
Little League tourney action this weekend
Three Little League All-Star teams from International Falls will be in action this weekend in the District 4 tournaments at Grand Rapids.
Falls’ 11-12 year-olds will open the tournament at 2 p.m. today at Wilcox Field against the winner of Friday’s game between Virginia and Chisholm.
A victory would set up a winners’ bracket game for the Falls on the same field at 4 p.m. Sunday, while a loss would place the Falls in a losers’ bracket game there at 2 p.m. Sunday.
Hibbing, Greenway, Itasca and Ely are the other four teams in the seven-team, double-elimination tournament. After Sunday’s games, the remaining teams with one loss or all wins will resume action the following weekend, July 20-22.
Falls’ other two Little League All-Star teams — 10-11 year-olds and 9-10 year-olds — had their respective opening tournament games scheduled for 6 p.m. Friday, against Hibbing at Olson-Hovet Field (10-11) and Ely at UPM Field (9-10).
The winners of those games play Sunday at 2 p.m. on the same fields, while the losers play there today at 4 p.m.
Greenway, Itasca and Virginia are also in the 10-11 tournament, while the other three teams in the 9-10 tournament are Greenway, Itasca and Hibbing. After Sunday’s games, the remaining teams with one loss or all wins resume action in Grand Rapids the following weekend.
