Ryan Anderson, 29, of Ray, is the 2011 John Beargrease Sled Dog Marathon champion this morning.

After more than 370 miles and four days of racing, Anderson crossed the finish line shortly after 9 a.m. — just 20 seconds ahead of last year’s champion, Nathan Schroeder from Chisholm.

Although Schroeder had control over the beginning of the race, Anderson stuck by his side for the final 100 miles, according to the official Beargrease website.

Anderson is the first person ever to win both the mid-distance and the marathon Beargrease.

See Saturday’s Journal for more details.
