With 10 returning players and a roster loaded with seniors, International Falls head volleyball coach Erin Shikowsky said the Broncos “have the potential to be a successful team” in 2012.
“I’m excited to see the girls make this team a priority and raise our level of play throughout the season,” said Shikowsky, who enters her 11th season as Falls’ head coach.
The Broncos, who complied a 10-14 record last year, have lost Libero Kelsey Foss, an Arrowhead All-Conference selection, to graduation.
However, the bulk of the team returns, including senior setter Reva Renollet, an Arrowhead and Iron Range All-Conference selection.
Five other returning seniors of note include outside hitters Olivia Santee and Sara Christianson and defensive specialists Shawna Misner, Anna Ringhofer and Anah Schwartz.
“Our roster this year includes 10 returning players, making our varsity experience one the strengths of our team early in the season,” Shikowsky said. “We have an all-around athletic crew that works hard, is eager to learn and wants to win.”
Shikowsky said the team goals this season include “winning the games we should win, along with winning the games we can win.”
“We will also strive to honor the Bronco volleyball tradition by representing the past, present and future of our program with pride,” she said.
Falls opens the season Thursday with a road match against Mountain Iron-Buhl. Shikowsky said the teams to watch out for this season include Hibbing, Greenway and Littlefork-Big Falls.
