After overcoming an eight-point deficit in the final game, Littlefork-Big Falls’ volleyball team won a home match in four games Tuesday night against last year’s Section 7A champion, Cherry, 25-18, 19-25, 25-16, 27-25.
“I thought that us coming back in that last game showed a lot from our team,” said L-BF head coach Sarah Bradley. “I thought that was really good, and that’s kind of a confidence builder for them.
“I think that now, if they find themselves down again, they know that they can come back because they’ve seen it before.”
Three of the Vikings’ junior hitters accounted for 31 kills between them. Abby Thompson had 12 kills and two blocks, Brooke Millerbernd recorded 10 kills and DyAna Imhof tallied nine kills and two blocks.
While L-BF outplayed Cherry at the net overall, the Tigers’ blocking opposition helped them win game two and hold an 18-10 lead in game four.
“I think it just took us a little while to figure out their block, and we started changing where we were hitting,” Bradley said.
Other statistical leaders for the Vikings included senior hitter Courtney Pfeifer with three serving aces and 27 digs and freshman Libero Breann Larson with 22 digs.
One glaring statistic Tuesday for L-BF had been service errors — 14 out of 93 serves — another contributing factor to dropping game two.
“Missing that many serves is never good,” Bradley said.
The Vikings’ match victory improved their season record to 2-0 going into Thursday’s local rivalry contest at International Falls.
