Rainy River Community College’s volleyball team won its final home match of the season Wednesday when the Voyageurs defeated Vermilion in three straight games, 25-19, 25-13, 25-9.
“It feels good to get that win and get that out of the way, our last home game,” said RRCC head coach Mel Millerbernd. “I thought we lacked a little bit of intensity, but we got the job done, so that’s what counts.”
The match marked the second time this season that RRCC swept Vermilion in Minnesota College Athletic Conference play and the Voyageurs’ fourth conference victory.
RRCC’s statistical leaders for the match included: Kristen Cruickshank, seven ace serves; Emily Jerome, 10 kills; Nakita Estling, 26 set assists; Rachel Clark, 12 digs; and Mariah Childs, three solo blocks.
The Voyageurs close out their season with conference road matches today at Northland and Tuesday at Hibbing.
While the top four out of the eight teams in the MCAC North advance to the Region 13B Tournament later this month, Millerbernd said RRCC looks like it is out of the playoff picture for this season.
“We would have had to have beaten a couple teams above us, so we’re probably out of the playoffs, but we want to end strong,” she said.
