Oakton 14, RRCC 0
The Voyageurs lost Sunday’s final game to a Division 2 school, Oakton Community College of Illinois, 14-0.
Max Gonzalez took the loss on the mound for RRCC going 5 2/3 innings giving up 14 runs, but only 6 earned, on 12 hits with 2 strikeouts, 4 walks and 1 hit by pitch.
Josh McInnes came in for relief pitching 1/3 of an inning, not allowing a run on a hit and a walk.
At the plate, Ty Paddock went 2-3 with a double. Riley Acra had a hit and a stolen base. Chandler Ticknor also recorded a hit.
“In the last four games we have given our opponent way too many opportunities by giving them free passes on base (through walks, hit by pitch and errors) and that leads to too many runs,” said RRCC head coach Josh Koenig. “We also had some injuries this weekend that also hampered us going into our games, but that is no excuse for the way that we played.
“I hope that we have learned a lot about ourselves as a team this week during spring training. If we can use these experiences and knowledge gained from them, we will have a lot of success this season.”
The Voyageurs are currently 2-6 overall. Their next action will be this coming Sunday when they travel to St. Cloud to take on Northland Community College and St. Cloud Technical and Community College.
