The Rainy River Community College baseball team played its final home games of the season last weekend and ended up with one win out of a pair of doubleheaders.
The Voyageurs lost both games of Saturday’s twin bill against Itasca.
In game one, RRCC led by 5 runs after three innings, but ended up committing 6 errors and losing, 15-11.
Reece Lanier pitched all seven innings in recording the loss, giving up the 15 runs, eight earned, on 13 hits with 2 walks while striking out three.
At the plate, the Voyageurs tallied 11 hits. Angel Hernandez Jr. led RRCC with 3 hits, including a pair of doubles, and 3 RBI with 2 runs. Josh McInnes and Max Gonzalez each added a pair of hits.
Itasca 10, RRCC 2
The Voyageurs could only muster 4 hits when they lost the second game to Itasca, 10-2.
Gonzalez recorded the loss pitching 6 2/3 innings, giving up 10 earned runs on 10 hits with 6 walks and a strikeout. Hernandez gave up a pair of hits pitching the final third of an inning.
Riley Acra singled and doubled with 2 RBI to lead RRCC at the plate.
FdL 11, RRCC 6
RRCC split Sunday’s doubleheader against Fond du Lac, losing the first game, 11-6.
The Voyageurs, who ended up committing 4 errors, led by a pair of runs early before giving up 10 runs in the final three frames.
Ty Paddock pitched all seven innings in recording the loss, allowing 11 runs, seven earned ,on 13 hits with a pair of walks while striking out four.
Of RRCC’s 7 hits, Acra had the team’s only multiple hits for the game with a single and a double.
The Voyageurs recorded 8 stolen bases as they ran the base paths against the Thunder with Dominic Casareto and Jamall Hudson each stealing a pair of bases.
RRCC 14, FdL 1, 5 innings
Needing a win in the final game to remain in contention for the playoffs, RRCC finished off Fond du Lac in five innings, 14-1.
Chandler Ticknor picked up his first college pitching victory going all five innings, allowing an earned run on 5 hits while striking out two.
Acra, Gonzalez and Gabriel Santos Muniz each accounted for two of the team’s 9 hits.
RRCC, which is 3-9 in the Minnesota College Athletic Conference and 10-28 overall, faces Fond du Lac today at 7:30 p.m. in Cloquet to determine the sixth and final playoff position in the MCAC North. The winner will play a best-of-three series this weekend in Grand Rapids against Itasca starting at 1 p.m. Saturday.
