The Rainy River Community College baseball team dropped to 2-6 in the Minnesota College Athletic Conference and 9-25 overall after losing both games of doubleheader Wednesday at Hibbing.

In game one, the Voyageurs fell behind by 6 runs and didn’t score until the top of the sixth inning en route to losing, 8-3.

Ty Paddock recorded the pitching loss, giving up all 8 runs on 10 hits with 5 walks while striking out six.

Gabriel Santos Muniz registered a pair of hits for RRCC. Brett Orpin and Angel Hernandez Jr. added a hit apiece.

In game two, the Voyageurs fell behind by 8 runs after two innings before losing to Hibbing, 10-2.

Max Gonzalez worked 1 2/3 innings to pick up the pitching loss, giving up 7 runs on 5 hits with 3 walks while striking out a batter. Chandler Ticknor pitched 4 1/3 innings in relief, allowing 3 runs on 8 hits with a strikeout.

At the plate, Riley Acra singled and doubled for RRCC, while Paddock, Santos Muniz and Bryn Redhead each added a single.

“Baseball can be a very negative game,” said Voyageurs head coach Josh Koenig. “When things don’t go our way, we have to stay positive and have the mentality that we are only one key pitch, play, or hit away from making something positive happen. You are never out of the game until you mentally take yourself out of the game.”

RRCC plays its final MCAC games at home this weekend with a doubleheader today against Itasca and a twin bill Sunday against Fond du Lac.
