The Rainy River Community College baseball team went 1-3 in a pair of doubleheaders last weekend in St. Cloud.
In game one Friday, the Voyageurs defeated Rochester Community and Technical College, 5-3.
Ty Paddock pitched his fifth complete game of the season to record the victory. Paddock allowed 5 hits while striking out nine.
“Ty pitched a heck of a game,” said RRCC head coach Josh Koenig.
Three Voyageurs accounted for the team’s 7 hits. Chandler Ticknor went 3-4 with 3 RBI. Riley Acra and Gabriel Santos Muniz each added 2 hits.
RCTC 18, RRCC 0
In game two Friday, Rochester erupted for 20 hits en route to shutting out the Voyageurs, 18-0, in five innings.
Reece Lanier took the loss after pitching 2 1/3 innings, allowing 9 runs, six earned, on 10 hits.
Max Gonzalez pitched 1 2/3 innings in relief, giving up 4 earned runs on 5 hits. Acra allowed 5 earned runs and 5 hits pitching the final inning.
Josh McInnes recorded the game’s only hit for RRCC.
SCTCC 11, RRCC 0
The Voyageurs lost the first game of Saturday’s doubleheader against St. Cloud Technical and Community College. 11-0, in five innings.
Ticknor recorded the pitching loss after four innings, allowing all 11 runs, nine earned, on 9 hits with 5 walks while striking out one.
RRCC had only 2 hits with Acra and Angel Hernandez Jr. having a hit apiece.
SCTCC 17, RRCC 7
The Voyageurs dropped their final game to St. Cloud, 17-7, in six innings.
McInnes took the loss after pitching four innings, allowing 14 runs, nine earned, on 13 hits with 2 walks while striking out two.
Gonzalez pitched 1 2/3 innings in relief, allowing 3 earned runs on 5 hits.
Of RRCC’s 10 hits, Acra and Paddock each had two.
Though pitching has been one of the Voyageurs’ strong points this season, Koenig the team last weekend “had some struggles on the mound.”
RRCC, which is 5-17 for the season, returns to action today in a doubleheader against Vermilion at Ely.
