After winning all six games to open the season last month at the Irish Dome in Rosemount, the Rainy River Community College women’s softball team was only able to win once in six tries last week on its trip to Titusville, Fla.
“We lost to some good teams,” said RRCC head coach Dieter Humbert, who also noted the Voyageurs were in a position to win all but one of their games last week.
RRCC, which played outside for the first time this season, lost all three of its games March 25 and won one of three games it played March 26.
“The second day we hit the ball much better,” Humbert said.
Prairie State 5, RRCC 2
The Voyageurs lost their first game March 25 against Prairie State, 5-2, in eight innings.
Oashaja Dobie pitched all eight innings for RRCC, allowing five runs, three earned, on nine hits with two walks while striking out four.
On offense, the Voyageurs could only generate four hits. Dobie and Andrea Barylski recorded two hits apiece with one of Dobie’s being a home run.
Prairie State 9, RRCC 1
In their second game March 25, Prairie State defeated RRCC, 9-1, in six innings.
Colby Redhead recorded the pitching loss for the Voyageurs, giving up six runs, four earned, on three hits with eight walks while striking out one in 4 1/3 innings.
In the field, RRCC committed four errors.
Dobie drove in the only run for the Voyageurs, who tallied only three hits.
SUNY Potsdam 3, RRCC 0
The Voyageurs could only generate a single hit March 25 when they lost to SUNY Potsdam, 3-0.
Dobie pitched all seven innings for RRCC, allowing three earned runs on six hits while striking out 11.
Elgin CC 9, RRCC 7
The Voyageurs dropped their opening game March 26 against Elgin Community College, 9-7.
Dobie recorded the pitching loss in five innings of work, allowing seven runs, four earned, on seven hits with a walk while striking out five.
At the plate, Dobie recorded four of RRCC’s nine hits.
Madison
College 5, RRCC 1
The Voyageurs led by a run after three innings before losing March 26 in their first of two games against Madison College, 5-1.
Redhead pitched 4 2/3 innings in recording the loss when she allowed four runs on 10 hits with a walk while striking out six.
The Voyageurs tallied nine hits with Kendra Charrois and Kristen Cruickshank recording two apiece.
RRCC 12,
Madison College 2
The Voyageurs tallied 14 hits March 26 when they won their final game over Madison College, 12-2, in five innings.
Redhead pitched the entire game to record the win, allowing both runs, one earned, on a hit with two walks while striking out five.
Five RRCC players had multiple hits, include three from Rachel Clark and two apiece from Cruickshank, Courtney Branham, Alisha Brinker and Emily Jerome.
The Voyageurs, whose season record now stands at 7-5, are not scheduled to be back in action until April 13 when they will be in Grand Rapids to make up games being postponed due to the weather over the next two weeks.
