Rainy River Community College dropped all four games it played last weekend in a pair of doubleheaders  against Western Technical College in La Crosse, Wis.

In the opening game Saturday, RRCC lost, 4-0.

The Voyageurs were only able to generate three hits on singles from Riley Acra, Giovanni Rivera and Angel Hernandez Jr.

RRCC freshman Reece Lanier pitched all 6 innings, giving up 6 hits and a walk while striking out one.

WTC 5, RRCC 3

The Voyageurs recorded 6 hits when they lost the second game to WTC, 5-3.

Acra had a pair of singles, while Bryn Redhead doubled for RRCC’s only multiple-base hit.

Max Gonzalez recorded the pitching loss working 5 2/3 innings, allowing all 5 runs, four earned, on 7 hits and two walks while striking out a batter.

WTC 5, RRCC 0

Acra accounted for the Voyageurs’ only hit when WTC shut them out in Sunday’s first game, 5-0.

Acra, Rivera and Hernandez each recorded a stolen base.

Ty Paddock pitched all six innings in a losing effort for RRCC, giving up 8 hits and a walk while striking out five.

WTC 5, RRCC 2

In the final game Sunday, the Voyageurs scored both of their runs in the opening inning when they lost to WTC, 5-2.

Josh McInnis recorded the pitching loss after working 5 innings, allowing 4 runs, three earned, on 6 hits and a walk while striking out two.

Chandler Ticknor pitched the final inning in relief, allowing an earned run on 2 hits.

RRCC head coach Josh Koenig said the Voyageurs “didn’t play bad baseball” and had “sound pitching” last weekend, but had too many mental errors running the bases and couldn’t get timely hits to score.

Koenig said “this team knows how to play the complete game,” but needs to tie the physical, mental and emotional aspects of the game together to “go from losing to winning close games.”

The Voyageurs, now 4-14, play two doubleheaders this weekend in St. Cloud — Friday against Rochester Community and Technical College and Saturday against St. Cloud Technical and Community College.
