Rainy River Community College women’s hockey head coach Evan Amdahl has announced that seven players have been recruited to play for the Voyageurs starting next season.
RRCC’s 2012-13 recruiting class includes:
• Sammi Harrity, a goalie from West St. Paul. “Sammi played in the Senior Classic and posted some impressive stats, a save percentage of .971 and goals-against average of .489 to lead all goalies.” said Amdahl, who noted Harrity will also play softball for the Voyageurs next season.
• Megan Markuson, a defensive player from Miles City, Mont. “Megan is a strong skating defenseman and sees the ice very well,” said Amdahl. “She will help in the replacement of a strong defensive core lost to graduation.”
• Chelsey Clarke, a forward from Limoges, Ontario, who is also a transfer student from Bishops University in Sherbrooke, Quebec. “Chelsey brings a passion for the game of hockey and looks forward to playing a full year after sitting out most of last year with an injury,” said Amdahl.
• Delaney Peters, a forward from Winnipeg, Manitoba, who had 6 goals and 14 assists in 23 games this year for the Sturgeon Heights Huskies in the WWHSHL. “Delaney brings us a hard work ethic and the desire to continually improve her skills, which is what we need at our level of competition,” said Amdahl.
• Kristen Andrews, a goalie from Halifax, Nova Scotia, who is transferring from Saint Mary’s University where she played field hockey as a goalie. “Hockey is where Kristen’s heart is and with the opportunity to continue to play on the ice, she will add depth to the position and challenge for the starting role,” said Amdahl.
• Jaylene Anderson, a forward from Rainy River, Ontario. “Jaylene has good size and speed,” said Amdahl. “Her versatility to play both forward and defense is a huge asset for her going into this season.”
• Alicia Beckel, a defensive player from Baudette. “The opportunity to continue to play hockey and stay close to home brings Alicia to RRCC,” said Amdahl. “I know Alicia is excited to continue playing with her high school teammate Jaylene (Anderson) next year.”
The Voyageurs, who have won three ACHA Division 2 national titles since their inaugural season in 2005-06, finished fifth at the ACHA W2 National Championships this past season.
RRCC ended the 2011-12 season 11-3-3 in ACHA games.
