The Rainy River Community College softball team recorded 40 hits over two five-inning games Thursday when the Voyageurs swept a road doubleheader against Mesabi Range.
RRCC won game one, 19-2.
Cateline Fafard picked up the pitching victory after giving up both earned runs on 6 hits with a walk and a hit batter while striking out 11.
At the plate, Fafard went 4-4. Voyageurs freshman Kendra Charrois also recorded 4 hits, including 2 doubles.
Three RRCC players — Chelsea Poulton, Kristen Cruickshank and Brittany Johnson — each had 3 hits, while three others — Colby Redhead, Amanda Hofius and Jenna Brady — recorded 2 hits apiece as part of the team’s 23 total hits.

Charrois and Cruickshank both recorded 3 hits while Johnson, Poulton, Fafard and Molly Baldwin each added 2 hits when the Voyageurs won game two, 13-5.
Redhead and Fafard split the pitching duties for RRCC. Redhead went three innings and allowed all 5 runs, two earned, on 3 hits with 2 walks while striking out three. Fafard scattered 2 hits and struck out four over two innings.
Home twin bill postponed
The Voyageurs’ home doubleheader initially scheduled for Monday against Vermilion was postponed because of the weather and has been rescheduled for April 18, in the middle of five home doubleheaders the team has scheduled for next week.
RRCC, which has a 4-0 record in the Minnesota College Athletic Conference and 6-7 overall, returns to action today in a doubleheader against Central Lakes at Brainerd.
Pitcher/Player of the Week
For their efforts in the four conference victories last week, Fafard has been named the MCAC North Division’s “Pitcher of the Week” and Poulton has been recognized as the “Player of the Week.”
Fafard, a sophomore from Dauphin, Manitoba, earned two wins and a save as she recorded 21 strikeouts in 14 innings to post a 2.00 ERA.
Poulton, a freshman from Carman, Manitoba, batted .769 (10-13) in the four wins last week. She also had 3 doubles and 9 RBI, and caught all four games.
