The Rainy River Community College softball team opened the 2012 season Monday in Rosemount by winning two of three games at the Irish Dome Tourney.
The Voyageurs began the tournament with a 9-6 victory over Bottineau.
Cateline Fafard pitched all seven innings to pick up the win, allowing only one earned run of the six scored on 6 hits and 3 walks while striking out nine.
At the plate, Fafard batted 2-4 with a double and 1 RBI. She also recorded a stolen base.
Other RRCC players with multiple hits included Chelsea Poulton, who batted 3-4 with a double and 4 RBI, and Marangeli Sanchez, who went 2-4. Sanchez also scored 2 runs and recorded 2 stolen bases.
RRCC 4, Northland 3
In game two, the Voyageurs edged Northland, 4-3.
Colby Redhead picked up the pitching victory after 6 1/3 innings, allowing 3 earned runs on 7 hits and 5 walks while striking out seven. Fafard recorded a save working the final two-thirds of the seventh inning, when she allowed a hit and had a strikeout.
Two RRCC players recorded multiple hits. Kristen Cruickshank had 2 doubles with 2 RBI. Kendra Charrois went 2-3 with a run scored.
Sanchez added a hit with 3 runs scored and 5 stolen bases.
SCTCC 11, RRCC 5
The Voyageurs lost their final game of the tournament to St. Cloud Tech, 11-5.
Amanda Hofius picked up the loss after pitching 1 2/3 innings, giving up 6 earned runs on 2 hits and 5 walks while striking out three.
Redhead pitched 1 1/3 innings in relief, allowing 2 runs, both unearned, on 2 hits and a walk. Cruickshank pitched the final 4 innings, allowing 3 runs, two earned, on 4 hits and a walk while striking out four.
At the plate, the Voyageurs had two players with multiple hits. Charrois went 2-3 with a double and a home run, scoring 2 runs with 1 RBI. Sanchez was 2-4 with a triple, a run scored and 1 RBI.
Poulton added a hit with 2 RBI.
RRCC, 2-1 overall, has six games over two days scheduled for today and tomorrow in Titusville, Fla.
