The Rainy River Community College softball team is now 8-2 in Minnesota College Athletic Conference games and 10-9 overall after recently splitting a pair of conference doubleheaders.

The Voyageurs recorded their first conference loss of the season Saturday when they split a doubleheader at Hibbing.

RRCC lost game one, 2-1, after tallying just 4 hits.

Kendra Charrois and Brittany Johnson each doubled for the Voyageurs.

Cateline Fafard pitched all seven innings in recording the loss, allowing 3 hits and 2 walks while striking out four.

RRCC 9, Hibbing 7

The Voyageurs’ bats came alive in game two when they recorded 13 hits and defeated Hibbing, 9-7.

Marangeli Sanchez and Kristen Cruickshank each had 3 hits for RRCC, while Fafard and Johnson both added a pair of singles.

Colby Redhead picked up the pitching victory working 3 2/3 innings, allowing 5 runs, four earned, and 6 hits with 2 walks.

Cruickshank allowed an earned run and a hit pitching a third of an inning in relief, while Fafard recorded a save after allowing an unearned run and a hit while striking out three in three innings.

Northland 9, RRCC 6

The Voyageurs’ home field wasn’t ready to be played on following the snowfall that arrived late last weekend, so they traveled Tuesday to play Northland on the Lake of the Woods High School field in Baudette, where RRCC lost the first game, 9-6.

Fafard took the pitching loss after giving up 6 runs, then was relieved by Cruickshank.

Of the Voyageurs’ 8 hits, Johnson and Fafard each had a pair of singles.

RRCC 6, Northland 1

A 2-RBI triple by Amanda Hofius in the seventh inning helped break open a 2-run lead when RRCC tallied 14 hits and won final the final game over Northland, 6-1.

Jenna Brady had 3 singles, while Molly Baldwin, Sanchez, Johnson and Fafard each added two hits for the Voyageurs.

Cruickshank pitched into the fourth inning and picked up the victory, allowing a run and 4 hits. Fafard closed out the game to record a save.

RRCC’s home opener is now set for Friday when the Voyageurs host Fond du Lac.
