RRCC spikers fourth at invite in Manitoba
Rainy River Community College’s volleyball team went 2-3 late last week at the Providence Invitational in Otterburne, Manitoba, and ended up in fourth place.
The Voyageurs opened the tournament Friday by being swept by the host school, Providence, 15-25, 21-25, 10-25, and also lost their second match in three straight games to the University of Winnipeg’s junior varsity team, 14-25, 19-25, 15-25.
However, RRCC won the third match on Friday in five games against Red River College, 25-23, 22-25, 25-21, 20-25, 15-6.
The Voyageurs opened Saturday’s play with a sweep of Assiniboine Community College in three close games, 25-21, 25-22, 25-21, before closing out the tournament in the third-place match against Red River College and losing in four games, 18-25, 16-25, 25-13, 25-20.
Estling ‘Setter of the Week’
For her efforts last week, in which RRCC went 3-3, sophomore setter Nakita Estling has been named the Minnesota College Athletic Conference Northern Division’s “Setter of the Week.”
Estling, who is from Warroad and has already surpassed 1,000 career set assists, added 147 more assists to her total and averaged seven assists per game last week. She also tallied 64 digs and had five service aces.
RRCC, which is 7-16 overall and 2-5 in the MCAC North, returns to action at 6:30 p.m. today with a conference match at Mesabi Range.
The Voyageurs’ next home match is Friday against Itasca.
