The Rainy River Community College volleyball team closed out the 2012 season Tuesday on a winning note.
The Voyageurs won their final match in five games at Hibbing, 25-21, 18-25, 19-25, 25-15, 15-10.
“It was exciting,” said RRCC head coach Mel Millerbernd, who noted she was glad to end the season with a win and also defeat a team that had beaten the Voyageurs at home earlier in the season in five games.
RRCC’s statistical leaders included: Kristen Cruickshank, 12 kills; Wilma Oombash, 11 kills; and Nakita Estling, 30 set assists.
The win against Hibbing snapped a two-match road losing streak.
On Saturday, the Voyageurs lost in four games to Northland, 25-21,11-25, 20-25, 22-25.
RRCC’s statistical leaders included: Oombash 11 kills; Estling, 29 set assists, 14 digs; Cruickshank, nine kills; and Rachel Clark, four ace serves.
On Friday, the Voyageurs were swept by Central Lakes, 14-25,13-25,20-25.
Mariah Childs led RRCC with 12 kills, while Clark had 12 digs and Estling recorded 13 digs and 15 set assists.
The Voyageurs ended the season at 5-9 in the Minnesota College Athletic Conference’s Northern Division for fifth place and 10-20 overall.
RRCC is losing Estling and Cruickshank to graduation.
