RRCC baseball team

The 2013 Rainy River Community College baseball team has been holding its “Fall Ball” practices this month, prior to beginning offseason workouts in preparation for the regular season next spring. The Voyageurs swept a doubleheader last Sunday against a team of Alumni players.

The 2013 Rainy River Community College baseball team swept a doubleheader Sunday against the Voyageur Alumni Team as part of the “Fall Ball” practices the Voyageurs have been holding this month at Scheela Field.

In game one, next year’s team registered 10 runs in the bottom of the first on the way to beating the Alumni, 15-1, in five innings.

The Voyageurs’ Bryn Redhead was a home run short of batting for the cycle when he went 3-3 with a single, double and triple. Redhead also walked, scored 3 runs and had 4 RBI.

Riley Acra batted 2-4 with 2 runs scored, 2 RBI and a stolen base.

Kent Jinkins, Makana Canda, Gino Strebing and Drew Birss each added a hit for RRCC.

On the mound, Ty Paddock got the win pitching three innings, giving up a run on 2 hits while striking out six and walking one. Jabarri Roberts came in to pitch the final two innings, not allowing a hit while striking out two and walking two.

Alan Strom led the Alumni team at the plate by going 1-2 with a stolen base and a run scored.  Duncan Paddock was 1-2 with an RBI.

Next year’s team also won game two in five innings after shutting out the Alumni, 11-0.

Redhead batted 2-3 with a double. He also walked, scored a run and had 2 RBI. Acra went 1-3 with a double, along with scoring 2 runs with an RBI.

Jenkins and Canda each added a hit with an RBI. Strebing doubled with 2 runs scored. Paddock also doubled with a run scored, an RBI and a stolen base.

Reece Lanier got the win on the mound for the Voyageurs pitching a perfect game, striking out four batters in four innings pitched. Josh McInnes pitched a scoreless fifth inning, striking out two of three batters that he faced.

RRCC ‘Fall Ball’ wrapping up

The Voyageurs will be practicing and playing in a best-two-out-of-three series through Sunday at Scheela Field to close out the “Fall Ball” season. They will then go into their offseason workouts to prepare for the regular season next spring.

The team will kickoff its “Hire-a-Hitter” fundraiser with window washing for local businesses next Saturday, Oct. 6, to raise money for the team’s spring trip to Florida.
