Rainy River Community College women’s volleyball coach Mel Millerbernd has announced that seven players have been recruited to play volleyball for the Voyageurs starting next season.

RRCC’s 2012 recruiting class includes:

• Emily Jerome, a hitter from Roseau. “She is an impressive all-around player,” said Millerbernd. “Emily will bring energy and intensity to the court.”

• Casey Evans, a hitter who played at St. Cloud Apollo High School. “Casey brings us a great work ethic and true dedication,” Millerbernd said. “Evans will also play basketball for the Voyageurs next season.”

• Wilma Oombash, a setter/hitter who played for the Dryden Eagles, which qualified for OFSAA several times, and also participated in basketball and soccer at Dryden. “Wilma is very talented and very passionate,” Millerbernd said. “Her versatility will help the Voyageur team.”

• Andrea Barylski, a hitter from Carman, Manitoba, who is currently playing club volleyball for the Winkler Aztecs. “Andrea is a well-rounded player,” said Millerbernd, who noted Barylski also participated in basketball, badminton, soccer, softball and track in high school.

• Rachel Clark, a hitter from Westlock, Alberta, who had the opportunity this spring to play volleyball in Hawaii with her high school team. “Rachel is a very athletic player from Alberta, Millerbernd said. “Her versatility will be exciting.”

• Kai Washington, a hitter from Charlottesville, Virginia, who is a transfer student and will also be playing basketball for the Voyageurs. “She will bring some much-needed height to the RRCC volleyball team,” said Millerbernd, “and she is an energetic, passionate player.”

• Courtney Olson, a defensive specialist from International Falls. “Courtney will add depth to the defense/libero position,” Millerbernd said. “She is excited about the opportunity to play volleyball again.”
