Three of four Rainy River Community College softball players named to Minnesota College Athletic Conference’s All-Northern Division teams have also received second-team All-State honors.

Voyageurs head coach Dieter Humbert said having four players being recognized in the MCAC is a “reflection on the entire team,” which had a 16-4 conference record this season and finished 19-21 overall.

RRCC’s MCAC North first-team selections include sophomores Cateline Fafard and Marangeli Sanchez, both of whom are also on the All-State second team.

Fafard, who is from Dauphin, Manitoba, was a pitcher/infielder for the Voyageurs. She accounted for 10 of RRCC’s 19 victories this season and also had five saves, as well as having a batting average around the .400 mark.

Humbert said Fafard was a pitcher who “took the team on her back many times” and “excelled at the plate as well.”

Sanchez, a catcher/infielder from Chicago, set the Voyageurs’ single-season record for stolen bases at 36 and also batted around the .400 mark.

The two RRCC freshmen named to the MCAC North second team include Chelsea Poulton and Brittany Johnson. Poulton also received All-State second-team honors.

Poulton, who is from Carman, Manitoba, played catcher and in the infield this past season. She led the team in batting average above .400 and in runs batted in with more than 40.

Johnson, an outfielder from Sidney, Mont., also tallied more than 40 RBI this season.
