The 40th anniversary of Voyageurs National Park and 50th anniversary of Voyageurs National Park Association is right around the corner. The celebration of both is kicking off early with a photo contest, seeking entries that show all the fun activities families can enjoy in the park - from wildlife viewing, fishing, houseboating, and camping to snowshoeing, hiking, and snowmobiling.
The contest, according to a release, is open to all, and Voyageurs National Park Association is offering prizes to the winners, which include a stay at Ash Trail Lodge for two, a sailing excursion in the park from Voyageurs Outfitters, and outdoor gear from Duluth Pack, Jack's Plastic Welding, and Eagle's Nest Outfitters. Photos must be submitted by Aug. 10 to be included in the contest. The winners will be decided by popular vote on the www.voyageurs.org website.
"As we look forward to 2015, this is an exciting time both for our organization and for Voyageurs National Park," Executive Director Christina Hausman said in a release. "The park is one of the hidden gems of Minnesota, unique for its quiet beauty and recreational opportunities. From snowmobiling in the winter, to fishing, guided boat tours, kayaking, and even houseboat excursions, there's something for everyone to enjoy. We hope that this contest will help us celebrate this special place - and we have such fun prizes. Who wouldn't want to win a Duluth Pack or a sailing excursion?"
Prizes will be awarded in two categories:
- Best photo of you enjoying Voyageurs National Park - contest organizers want to see how you, your family and friends have fun when you visit Voyageurs. Are you roasting marshmallows by the campfire? Relaxing on your houseboat? Snowmobiling? Cross-country skiing? Kayaking? Ice fishing? We want your best photos of people enjoying the park.
- Best wildlife or scenic photo from Voyageurs National Park - Did you take an amazing photo the northern lights? See a moose or an eagle soaring? If you captured a loon at sunset, be sure to enter.
The photo from either category that receives the most votes on the website will win the grand prize.
Photographs should only be submitted by the original photographer. Make sure to get permission from the people featured in the photo before submitting. Contest entries are due by Aug. 10. Full contest rules and information is available at: www.voyageurs.org/photocontest.
