The Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary to Post 2948 has announced winners of the 21012 Americanism Fall School Contest.
Winners in Category 1, kindergarten through second grade, are: first place, Kourtney Talley; second place, Matt Wherley; and third place, Carolyn Amiot.
A total of 187 students participated in this category.
Category 2, third and fourth grade winners, are: first place, Mathew Fuller; second place, Megan Mason; and third place, Ella Bahr. Sixty-seven students participated in this category.
There were no entries in the fifth and sixth grade category.
Prizes were Kmart gift cards purchased by the auxiliary in the amounts of $20 for first place, $15 for second place and $10 for third place in each category.
The first place winners were sent on to be judged at the district level.
Carter Leseman, who won first place in the 2012 Loyalty Day contest, also won second place at the department level and received another prize.
The auxiliary acknowledged students who participated and teachers for allowing them time in class to take part in the project.
