Glen Albert DeLack, 97

Glen Albert DeLack, 97, died Thursday, June 23, 2011, at the Littlefork Nursing Home of natural causes.

Glen was born Jan. 7, 1914, in Littlefork, Minn., to Lee DeLack and Laura Elizabeth

DeLack (McNeil).

Glen had six siblings. When Glen was 6 years old his mother died. He was then sent to Montana to live with his uncle, Ray McNeil, where he stayed until he was 17.

At 17, Glen returned to Littlefork and went to work in the local logging camps. Glen was part of the last log drive in 1938. He loved the woods and knew a wealth of information about the forest and animals.

On Aug. 25, 1940, Glen married Ruth Bloomquist, a native of Blackduck.

Glen worked for many years for Hans Promersberger in the logging industry. After that, he went to work for Boise Cascade, in the Woodlands Department until he retired.

Glen spent many years trapping beaver, a past time he readily enjoyed. Glen had many stories and adventures from his trapping days, and was once surrounded by a pack of wolves while walking out of the woods. Crafty and wily himself, he managed to survive the ordeal. Glen was fond of telling the story, which grew more and more impressive each time he told it.

Glen was a popular resident of Littlefork and was known affectionately as “Busty Coggins.”

Glen had a wonderful sense of humor and a passionate spirit of adventure. He could make anyone laugh with his witty remarks and his charismatic personality. He was fond of playing cards, taking rides out in the woods, fishing, and talking to locals and strangers alike who passed through Littlefork.

Glen was a special man with a personality that was bigger than life. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth DeLack; son, Tom DeLack; one grandchild, Tracy Lynn DeLack; and three sisters and three brothers.

Glen is survived by a son, Neil DeLack (Laurel) of Littlefork; daughters, Beth DeLack of International Falls and Diane Timmer (Guy) of Baudette; nine grandchildren, Scott DeLack (Leah), Stephanie DeLack, Jill Hasbargan (Jake), Nathan Heibel (Cyndi), Dane Heibel, Todd DeLack, Colleen Timmer, Riley Timmer (Tiffany) and Lynn Beyer; and 13 great-grandchildren.
