Joseph George Doris, 84, of International Falls, Minn., died at his residence Saturday, June 25, 2011, in International Falls.

Memorial services were at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 28, at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church with the Fr. Chris McKusky, OMI, officiating.

A rosary took place at 10 at the church.

Inurnment was in the Veterans of Foreign Wars section of Forest Hill Cemetery, International Falls. Urn bearers were all of his friends and family.

Joseph was born Feb. 9, 1927, in Jamestown, N.D., the son of Frank and Mary (Glowack) Doris.

He married Edna Oveson on July 18, 1985.

Joe was the definition of a busy body, whether it was woodworking, designing stained glass projects, or simply mowing the lawn. He always had a project or two on-the-go at home or at family and friends.

Living on Rainy River most of his life he loved to fish and travel Rainy Lake. Bringing in his catch for his loving wife, Edna to prepare as he enjoyed all she cooked and baked for him. He was always ready for a good game of cards or a challenging game of shuffleboard and in his earlier years an exciting curling match.

Joe took great pride in serving his country during World War II and continued serving his country through the VFW for over 40 years.

He found satisfaction after the war through his job in the maintenance department for the mill where he made many friends. However, after 43 years as an employee of Mando and Boise Cascade, Joe decided to it was time to retire and head South. Joe had a love for the warm climate and made a second home in Tucson, Ariz., every winter, which gave him another world of projects needing to be done.

He will be sadly missed by his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife, Edna Doris of International Falls, Minn.; son, David (Diane) Doris of International Falls, Minn.; daughter, Roberta (Steve Larsen) Ames of Soudan, Minn.; stepdaughters, Karen (Allan) Harn of Omaha, Neb., Sandy (Dan) Wherley of Denver, Colo., Joanne (Ralph) Valdez of Tucson, Ariz., and Kristine (Tim) Lessard of International Falls, Minn.; stepsons, Larry (Jean Evans) Oveson of International Falls, Minn., Robert (Charity) Oveson of Flagstaff, Ariz., and Ron (John Cody) Oveson of Minneapolis, Minn.; three grandchildren; 14 step-grandchildren; 18 step-great-grandchildren; brother, James (Darlene) Doris of St. Helens, Ore.; and sister, Lucille Olson of Yakima, Wash.
