If anyone says there’s nothing to do in Borderland in the summer, they are wrong.

Just take a look back at the number of gatherings, new and old, that have this summer drawn Borderland residents and visitors together. Events and fundraisers that started in June to expanded Fourth of July events to this past weekend’s International Falls Bass Championship gave many people a reason to come out and show their community support while at the same time having some fun.

And it’s not over yet. The summer festivities carry on to this weekend’s Northern Minnesota District Fair in Littlefork, where there should be something for everyone, say organizers.

The smell of cotton candy, the colorful blur of carnival rides, and a variety of entertainment is enough for many, but the district fair also gives the community a chance to experience a taste of the rural life.

4-Hers have been planning their projects throughout the summer, gardeners have been cultivating their offerings, and many others have been waiting for the fair to showcase their creativity and skills.

In addition, the classic antique tractor show will hearken some people back to the good ol’ days when farming was a part of many people’s lives.

Clearly, the district fair is a gem of an event for Borderland. It offers a chance to play games for prizes, see the mud fly when the trucks hit the track, and watch friends and family race their lawn mowers.

As an organizer Tom O’Connell notes, there may be bigger fairs, but this is our fair and we encourage all to spend some time experiencing and supporting the Northern Minnesota District Fair.
