Seven people will have a roof over their heads for the holiday weekend thanks to the Northland Chapter of the American Red Cross.
Following Tuesday’s fire at the Budget Host Inn, seven long-term residents are without a home. Immediately following the fire, the Red Cross put up those in need at America’s Best Value Inn and Suites in the Falls, but only for three days. However, the organization has decided to extend their policy limits and is giving victims a place to stay through the weekend.
“Because of limited funds, usually we can only provide a maximum of three days of housing to those in need,” said Judy Gonzalez, executive director of the Northland Chapter. “But, this is a special situation and with the weekend being a holiday, we are giving them housing for five days and will be working with them closely after that.”
Gonzalez added that clothing and medicine are also being provided to any of the seven individuals who need it.
Local chapter volunteers Clint Chase and Marlys Grindall were commended by Gonzalez for all the hard work they’ve been doing following Tuesday’s fire.
“We are very thankful of them,” she said. “They are making sure these folks have everything they need.”
A local disaster relief fund has been established and Gonzalez hopes to raise at least $1,500 by next week. Anyone who would like help can send a contribution to:
