Littlefork-Big Falls’ girls basketball team scored enough points in the first half to win at home Tuesday night against Greenway.
Brooke Millerbernd scored 11 of her game-high 23 points in the first half, while all of Paige DeLack’s eight points came in the first 18 minutes, as the Vikings downed the Lady Raiders, 49-24.
Facing a zone defense from Greenway, DeLack scored on outside jump shots as Millerbernd battled inside to give L-BF a 29-12 lead at intermission.
“We like to get inside, and it helps out when the outside shooting is working like it was the first half,” said Vikings head coach John Larson.
Millerbernd ended up with a “double-double” as she also hauled in 16 rebounds.
All the scoring came inside the arc and from the charity stripe as neither team made a 3-pointer and both squads missed most of their free throws with L-BF shooting 9-19 and the Lady Raiders going 4-14.
Greenway’s shooting woes could only produce a dozen points in each half as Taylor Orhn ended up being the team’s top scorer with six points.
Neither team did much scoring in the first 9 minutes of the second half as L-BF outscored the Lady Raiders, 5-4, before the Vikings closed out the half on 15-8 run.
“I think we kind of let up on them a little bit in the beginning of the second half and then decided to come back,” Larson said.
The win improves L-BF’s season record to 5-3. The Vikings next host Hill City on Thursday.
Northeast Range 61, I. Falls 41
International Falls’ girls basketball team lost its third consecutive game of the season Tuesday night as the Broncos fell on the road to Northeast Range, 61-41.
No one scored in double figures for the Falls, which trailed by 12 at halftime, as five players each ended up with a team-high six points.
Kyie Lenci had a game-high 22 points for Northeast Range, while Danielle Lenci added a dozen.
The Broncos, who dropped to 6-3, next host Virginia on Thursday.
