Littlefork-Big Falls’ girls basketball team was able to overcome an 11-0 deficit at the start of Monday night’s game in the L-BF gym, but not a 19-0 scoring run by Ely in the second half.

As a result, the Vikings lost to the Timberwolves, 65-47.

After pulling within five points, 25-20 at halftime, L-BF took a one-point lead early in the second half on an 8-2 scoring run capped off by a field goal from Brooke Millerbernd, who led the Vikings in scoring with 16 points.

DyAna Imhof and Abby Thompson each added a dozen points for L-BF.

The Vikings’ 28-27 advantage early in the second half turned out to be the last time L-BF would hold the lead.

“We’ve got to get a little more strength, mentally, and make sure we can finish games out that we are very capable of winning,” said Vikings head coach John Larson.

Ely scored two consecutive baskets to pull back in front by three. A field goal by Millerbernd trimmed the Timberwolves’ lead to 31-30. Then Ely took advantage of the Vikings’ turnovers to score 19 unanswered points.

“Mentally, we kind of lost it, and didn’t gain it back until they went on that 19-0 run,” Larson said.

Three Ely players scored in double figures led by Mariah McDonald with a game-high 32 points.

L-BF, which dropped to 6-5, next plays Thursday at Cherry.
