Falls’ girls cross country team won Tuesday’s invitational meet at Ely and also recorded four top-10 individual finishes in the process.

The Bronco girls had the top team score of 34, followed by Ely (68), South Ridge (68), Virginia (81) and Eveleth-Gilbert (92).

Falls sophomore Sydney Raboin finished the 4,000-meter course in first at 16 minutes, 50 seconds.

“Sydney ran a great race on a very challenging course,” said Broncos head coach Paul Hjelle. “She was mentally ready to go.”

Falls’ other top finishers included: Lexi Erickson, sixth in 17:13; Amber Harms, ninth in 17:29; Amy Auran, 10th in 17:44; and Rachel Foss, 15th in 18:41.

“Our girls continue to improve with each meet and that’s what we are working on right now,” Hjelle said.

In the boys competition, the Broncos placed third out of five teams.

Virginia won with 35, followed by Eveleth-Gilbert (41), the Falls (72), Ely (99) and Greenway (105).

Marco Griffith recorded the fastest time for the Broncos on the 5,000-meter course by placing 10th in 19:05.

The other four Falls runners finishing in the top 20 included: Cade MacKay, 14th in 19:32; Charlie Gordon, 16th in 19:36; Aaron Geiss, 17th in 19:39; and Logan Veillieux, 20th in 19:43.

The Broncos will be back in action Saturday at the Swain meet in Duluth.
