Falls’ boys swimming and diving team dominated the diving competition at Saturday’s five-team Virginia Invitational.
The Broncos captured the top-four places among the divers led by senior Alex Henningsen, who won with the top score of 323.4, followed by three freshmen, Cody Tatsak, Chase Carrigan and Cole Tatsak.
Henningsen also accounted for Falls’ best finish in the individual swimming events by placing third in the 50-yard freestyle in 25.17 seconds.
“Our divers made a big showing by placing first, second, third and fourth in their event...,” said Broncos head coach Hailey Silvers. “Alex Henningsen swam and dove with an injury (after) badly bruising his ribs earlier (last) week.”
Falls’ other individual medal winner was sophomore Jeff Klow, who placed fifth in the 100 breaststroke in 1:17.15.
The Broncos earned medals in all three relay races, placing third in both the 200 medley relay (2:02.56) and 200 freestyle relay (1:45.65) and fifth in the 400 freestyle relay (4:05.79).
“The boys are getting to see the results of all their hard work in practice,” Silvers said. “We had lots of personal records, and earning nine medals in six events was a wonderful reward for a tough week.”
Falls placed fourth as a team. Virginia won its own invitational with 520 points, followed by Eveleth-Gilbert (316), Mesabi East (280), the Falls (240) and Chisholm (213).
