After several years of being on the losing end of the dual meet score against what is now the combined team of Warroad/Roseau/Greenbush/Middle River, the Bronco girls swimming and diving team headed back to International Falls victorious on Thursday night.

The Broncos won the meet, 96-83.

“There were many personal bests, and the girls worked hard for the win,” said Falls head coach Jill Herzig. “All of the girls swam and dove extremely well, and the coaches and I are very proud of them.”

After falling behind in the middle of the meet, Herzig said the Broncos pulled ahead by placing 1-2-3 in the 100 breaststroke.

Sophomore Breanna Shofner won the event in 1 minute, 18.29 seconds, followed by senior Ashley Hasbargen (1:19.97) and seventh-grader Claire Herzig (1:24.55).

Herzig said the Falls wrapped up the dual meet victory in the final event by placing second and third in the 400 freestyle relay.

The Broncos went 1-2 in the 200 medley relay in 2:07.31 and 2:13.58, respectively, and also placed first in the 200 freestyle relay (1:50.47).

Shofner was on both winning relay teams, along with senior Morgan Bruess and sophomore Blair Johnson, while Hasbargen filled out the medley relay and senior Rachel Adams joined the freestyle relay.

Shofner ended up being part of four first-place finishes as she went 1-2 with Adams in the 50 freestyle in 27.25 and 27.81, respectively.

Bruess won the 100 backstroke in 1:11.09 and placed runner-up in the 200 freestyle in 2:23.64.

A couple of individual 2-3 finishes for the Falls included sophomore Courtney Klow and junior Abby Oveson in the 200 individual medley in 2:41.68 and 2:43.79, respectively, and freshman Clara Wegner and seventh-grader Tassja Herges in the diving competition, scoring 128.35 and 122.40 points.

The Broncos’ Jenna Anderson placed second in the 500 freestyle (6:51.56), while Adams added a third-place finish in the 100 butterfly (1:13.53).
