The International Falls boys swimming and diving team opened the 2011-12 season Monday with a dual meet loss at Chisholm, which has a pool length of only 20 yards rather than 25.

While the Broncos are counting on their divers this season to be competitive, Falls head coach Hailey Silvers said Chisholm’s pool is too shallow to have a diving competition.

“This time I believe not having diving cost us a win and being short a couple guys,” Silvers said.

In the swimming events, individual winners for the Broncos included Corin Wenger in the 100 individual medley and Jeff Klow in the 100 butterfly.

Klow added a second-place finish in the 100 breaststroke, while Levi Lucy came in runner-up in the 100 backstroke.

In the relay events, Falls’ team of Alex Henningsen, Cody Tatsak, Ian Ducharme and Wenger placed first in the 180 freestyle relay.

The Broncos’ next meet is Jan. 3 at Eveleth-Gilbert.
