Falls’ girls cross country team is entering Thursday’s Section 7A meet in Cloquet after placing three runners in the top 15 this week at the Iron Range Conference meet to earn All-Conference honors.
Sophomore Sydney Raboin had the top finish for the Broncos after placing fourth in 16 minutes, 15.4 seconds over 4,000 meters. Seventh-grader Lexi Erickson placed 12th in 16:56.4 and junior Amber Harms came in 13th in 16:57.5.
“It was nice to have three girls make All-Conference,” said Falls head coach Paul Hjelle. “This was Amber and Sydney’s second year in a row, so that shows their consistency. Lexi really ran well, too.”
Sophomore Amy Auran, who qualified for state last year with a top-10 finish at the Section meet, placed 18th at the IRC meet in 17:43.9. Falls’ fifth and final girls runner who counted in the point standings, junior Rachel Foss, finished 20th in 17:57.7, about a minute behind Harms.
“To have a chance next week at Sections, we are going to need a much tighter spread between our top runners,” Hjelle said.
No one on the Broncos’ boys team earned All-Conference honors this year. The top finish came from senior Charlie Gordon, who placed 22nd in 19:05.2 over 5,000 meters.
“Our boys ran decent (Tuesday), but they need to come ready to run next week (at the Section meet) or they might not even be in the top 10,” Hjelle said.
The top two teams and top 10 individuals at the Section 7A meet will qualify for the state meet set for Nov. 5 at Saint Olaf College.
