Falls’ girls swimming and diving team got a taste of what an end-of-the-season tournament meet could be like after competing Saturday at the Hibbing Invitational.

Of the nine teams entered, the Broncos placed sixth. Hibbing won its own invitational with 471 points, followed by Bemidji (436), Cambridge (415), Grand Rapids (379), Mesabi East (180), the Falls (145), Eveleth-Gilbert (124.5), Virginia (103.5) and Chisholm (65).

“(We had) four big powerhouse teams to compete against,” said Broncos head coach Jill Herzig. “We swam well and are getting ready for our (home) meet against Mesabi East on Thursday.”

The top individual finish for the Falls came in the 100-yard backstroke, where senior Morgan Bruess finished fifth in 1 minute, 10.56 seconds. Sophomore Courtney Klow recorded another top-10 finish for the Falls in same event by placing 10th in 1:13.69.

Bruess also was part of two relay teams that both placed fifth.

She joined seniors Rachel Adams and Ashley Hasbargen and sophomore Breanna Shofner for a time of 2:05.86 in the 200 medley relay.

Bruess, Adams and Shofner combined with junior Abby Oveson to finish the 200 freestyle relay in 1:52.32.

Shofner and Adams also recorded top-10 individual finishes in the 50 freestyle in 27.15 and 27.67 for sixth and eight place, respectively. Adams added a 10th-place finish in the 100 butterfly in 1:15.52.
