International Falls’ junior high girls swimming and diving team placed runner-up Saturday at the Little Giant Invitational hosted by Mesabi East.

The Broncos had 413 points, second to meet champion Grand Rapids with 600.

The competition in the individual events was divided by grade, while grades 7-9 combined for the three relay events.

Falls seventh-grader Emma Misner won both the 50 freestyle (30.2) and 100 freestyle (1:07.28). The Broncos’ other individual first-place finish came from eighth-grader Abby Kostiuk in the 100 backstroke (1:14.98).

Seventh-grader Claire Herzig placed second in both the 100 individual medley (1:20.51) and 100 breaststroke (1:22.38).

Three other seventh-graders finishing second included Anna Earley in the 50 freestyle (30.96), Tassja Herges in the diving competition (129.4) and Carolann Stone in the 100 backstroke (1:23.9).

Freshmen Jessie Hell and Clara Wenger placed second and third in the diving competition with scores of 124.7 and 112.55, respectively.

Stone also placed third in the 200 freestyle (2:36.02). Other third-place individual finishes from the Broncos’ seventh-graders included Laura Lucy in the 100 backstroke (1:24.84) and Emily Saari in the 100 breaststroke (1:25.29).

The best showing by one of Falls’ relay teams came in the 200 freestyle relay when the Broncos placed third in 1:59.06.
