Except for Falls’ winning relays teams, having to hold the season-opening girls swimming and diving meet in Hibbing instead of home produced few first places Thursday for the Broncos.

Hibbing’s varsity team defeated the Falls, 108-76.

The Broncos originally had the dual meet with Hibbing scheduled for the FHS pool, but the implementation of a new rule requiring the water to be at least four feet deep by the starting blocks resulted in the meet being moved.

One of Falls’ first places came in the 200 medley relay with team members Morgan Bruess, Breanna Shofner, Ashley Hasbargen and Rachel Adams winning in 2 minutes, 7.65 seconds.

Bruess, Shofner and Adams teamed up with Abby Oveson to win the 200 freestyle relay in 1:52.05.

Shofner and Oveson combined with Blair Johnson and Courtney Klow to win the 400 freestyle relay in 4:16.11.

Bruess and Klow also finished 1-2 individually in the 100 backstroke.

Another 1-2 finish for the Falls came in the diving competition from freshmen Clara Wenger and Jessica Hell.
