Falls’ girls hockey team split a pair of games decided by a goal at Detroit Lakes last weekend.

“We had a chance to win both games,” said Broncos head coach Gerald Bolstad.

On Friday, Amy Auran recorded a hat trick for all three of the Falls’ goals in a 4-3 losing effort.

The Broncos took a 3-2 lead after Auran scored her final goal 3:41 into the final period. But Detroit Lakes’ Chandra Johnson scored a pair of goals in the final 3 minutes to cap off her own hat trick and provide the margin of victory.

Falls goalie Taylar Nelson recorded 21 saves. The Broncos outshot Detroit Lakes, 33-25.

On Saturday, the Falls overcame a 2-0 deficit with three unanswered goals to win, 3-2.

Hillary Fox got the Broncos on the scoreboard with a power play goal assisted by Sydney Raboin and Jordan Bright 4:45 into the second period. Bailey Bernard tied the game 4 minutes later with an assist by Auran, who scored the game-winning goal 3:47 into the final period.

Falls outshot Detroit Lakes, 30-29. Sophomore goalie Keanna Carlson had 27 saves for the Broncos.

In Tuesday night’s game at Fort Frances, Falls won 2-0.

Both of the Broncos’ goals were unassisted with Jordan Bright scoring in the first period and freshman Jenna Anderson scoring her first varsity goal in the final period.

Falls sophomore goalie Keanna Carlson recorded the shutout with 18 saves.

Bolstad said the Broncos played one of their best games defensively this season against Fort Frances.

“We played hard,” he said. “We played with a lot of grit.”

Falls’ next game is Thursday at Lake of the Woods.
