The season came to an end Wednesday night for International Falls’ football team as the Broncos lost a road game to Greenway/Nashwauk-Keewatin, 44-8.

The loss dropped the Falls to 2-5 in the Sea-Range Conference and 2-6 overall. Coupled with how other teams in Section 7AAA closed out the regular season, the Broncos ended up not making the playoffs with the other eight Section teams receiving a higher QRF ranking and an opportunity to play in the postseason.

Milaca, which also ended the regular season 2-6, picked up the No. 8 and final Section 7AAA seed Wednesday when the Wolves won over Little Falls, 33-22, and ranked just above the Falls in the QRF.

G/N-K, the top-seeded team in Section 7AAA after having defeated all four of its Section opponents this season, dominated the Falls from start to finish. The Titans led 24-0 at halftime and extended their lead to 38-8 going into the final quarter.

The Broncos didn’t get on the scoreboard until the third quarter when quarterback Gunnar Anderson connected on a 35-yard touchdown pass to Josh Owen.

Unlike Falls’ home victories the past two weeks when the Broncos relied primarily on running the football, Falls went to the air often against G/N-K.

Anderson completed 16 of 39 passes for 183 yards.

He also threw two interceptions.

Owen hauled in seven catches for 129 yards, while Ben Humbert also had seven receptions for 43 yards.
