After falling behind 2-0 early at home Saturday, International Falls’ girls hockey team scored three unanswered goals to defeat Proctor/Hermantown, 3-2.
“(Proctor/Hermantown) got a couple bounces early on us and got ahead, but the girls really stuck with it,” said Broncos head coach Gerald Bolstad. “(The Bronco girls) kept moving their feet, and we got better as the game went on.”
Both of the Mirage goals came in the first five minutes. Reilly Fawcett broke the scoreless tie with 13:03 to play in the opening period, followed by a goal from Justina Lindberg.
The Broncos’ Amy Auran made it a one-goal game with 1:03 left in the opening period as the sophomore forward scored assisted by Sydney Raboin and Alyssa Bergstrom.
Bailey Bernard tied the game at 2-2 assisted by Bergstrom and Hillary Fox with 11:51 left in the second period.
The game-winner and first varsity goal by Falls freshman forward Tessa Walls and assisted by Jessica Ringhofer and Bernard came with 10:25 remaining in the second period.
After the Mirage outshot the Broncos, 10-5, in the opening period, Falls outshot Proctor/Hermantown, 11-5, in the second 17 minutes. For the game, the Broncos held a 23-21 advantage in shots on goal.
“We took over play in the second period,” Bolstad said.
Sophomore Keanna Carlson made 19 saves to record the victory in goal for the Broncos.
On Tuesday night at Hibbing, Falls lost, 5-1. The Broncos are now 7-3 overall.
