A hat trick by one of Falls’ defensive players, Michele McDonald, highlighted the Bronco girls hockey team’s 8-1 home victory Friday against Princeton.

“It’s always fun to skate off the ice when you just whale one in, but the girls played hard everywhere...,” said McDonald. “We just kept getting (goals) in there. It was great.”

Falls took a 2-0 lead 3:31 after the opening faceoff on goals from forwards Sydney Raboin and Jordan Bright.

The Broncos pulled in front 5-0 after two periods on goals from Katie West and the first two from McDonald.

After Ally McAlpine scored Princeton’s only goal with 1:16 elapsed in the final period, Falls scored three more times with goals from Amy Auran, McDonald and Abbey Fox.

“I think we played pretty well,” said Broncos head coach Gerald Bolstad. “It was a big seeding win for us.”

Falls sophomore Keanna Carlson recorded the win in goal with 20 saves. The Broncos outshot the Tigers, 24-21.

In Tuesday’s game at Bemidji, Falls lost, 4-0.

Allie Lapp scored a goal in both the first and second periods for Bemidji.

The Broncos, whose record fell to 8-4, next host Thief River Falls on Thursday.
