Senior forward Brett Musich scored five goals Tuesday night when the International Falls boys hockey team won at Ely, 9-1.

“Brett played a great game finding the back of the net five times,” said Broncos head coach Bruce Elson. “A great senior effort.”

Falls’ other four goals came from Lucas DeBenedet, Mason Meyer, Kyler Schneider and T. J. Wickstrom.

Nick Mathews scored Ely’s only goal on a power play in the second period.

The Broncos ended up outshooting Ely 45-26. Wes Gunnerson recorded the win in goal.

I. Falls 5, Detroit Lakes 1

Freshman Jackson Vollom scored the first two goals of his varsity career Saturday afternoon when the International Falls boys hockey team won at home against Detroit Lakes, 5-1.

In the opening period, the Broncos scored two goals within 18 seconds of each other. Eric Lassila scored the game’s first goal on an assist by Christian Kittelson with 9:56 left in the first period, followed by an unassisted goal from Derek White to put the Falls in front, 2-0.

Detroit Lakes’ only goal came 2:20 into the second period unassisted from Alex Mason.

The Broncos then scored two more times in the second period on goals from DeBenedet and Vollom. The final goal from Vollom came on an assist by Luke Spilde with 14:11 left in the final period.
