Littlefork-Big Falls’ volleyball team closed out the regular season at 19-5 after sweeping a home match Monday night against Northome/ Kelliher, 25-7, 25-17, 25-8.
“It feels good to end the season on a win,” said L-BF head coach Sarah Bradley. “It’s definitely nice to end on a positive note.”
The Vikings’ Courtney Pfeifer made all 31 of her serves as she recorded 10 aces and added five kills. Paige Christianson had seven ace serves, while DyAna Imhof recorded three aces, 12 kills and five blocks. Brooke Millerbernd registered 13 kills and 10 digs. Paige DeLack had 23 set assists.
Bradley said L-BF was able to stay focused on the regular season finale despite all the activities taking place during Homecoming week.
“I really wanted them, I guess, to be mentally prepared coming into the game and not let the other distractions play a role,” she said.
Bradley said she should know around the middle of this week where the Vikings will be seeded in Section 7A and whether they will receive a first-round bye and host a game when tournament action begins next week.
“If we got that first-round bye, and we’re in the top half of the Section, we would get (to host a) playoff game,” she said.
I. Falls 3, Mesabi East 0
International Falls played its final Iron Range Conference match of the season at home Tuesday when the Broncos won in three straight games against Mesabi East, 25-21, 25-21, 25-22.
“It’s always nice to win in three...,” said Falls head coach Erin Shikowsky. “We had moments where we did really great things, and then we look a little dysfunctional at times.
“When we were down, we recovered, and that’s what we’ve been trying to do all year.”
Jenna Vergeldt led the Broncos with six kills and 10 blocks. Tessa Walls added six kills, nine blocks, three ace serves and five digs. Reva Renollet had 20 set assists and 10 digs, while Kelsey Foss also had 10 digs.
The Broncos improved their season match record to 10-13, prior to beginning playoff action a week from today.
“We served well and passed a lot better, and so I’d like to see our offense become a lot quicker and a lot more aggressive,” Shikowsky said.
She said she should know the middle of this week who the Falls will be opening the Section 7AA Tournament against on Oct. 26.
