Littlefork-Big Falls’ football team came close to winning its first game of the season Friday afternoon before losing a road game late against Northeast Range, 20-16.

The Vikings scored first on a two-yard touchdown run by freshman Ryan Henrickson. The two-point conversion put L-BF in front, 8-0, after the opening quarter.

Though Northeast Range was able to score two touchdowns before halftime, the Vikings were in front at intermission, 16-14, after senior Jeffrey Fry ran into the end zone from five yards away and L-BF made another two-point conversion.

The Vikings held the lead going into the fourth quarter until Northeast Range’s Jordan Villebrun connected on a seven-yard touchdown pass to Eric Bjorgo for the game-winning score.

L-BF gained all its 171 offensive yards on the ground as junior Richie Van Drunen accounted for 100 yards on 30 carries. Senior Mitch Nelson, who added 56 yards on 12 carries, threw all eight of the team’s passes for no yards and was intercepted twice.

On the defensive side of the ball, Friday was the first time this season L-BF limited an opponent to less than 50 points.

The Vikings, who dropped to 0-4, return to action at 3 p.m. Saturday when they host Silver Bay (William Kelley).
