The regular season ended the same way it began for the Littlefork-Big Falls football team — with a lopsided loss to Bigfork.
On Wednesday night, he Vikings lost their Homecoming game, 58-8.
L-BF had lost its season opener Sept. 1 at Bigfork, 60-36.
“We ended like we started — badly,” said Vikings head coach Derek Bilben. “That’s just a good team. That’s how good they are, so that’s the level we have to play at and we’re not there.”
L-BF trailed 28-0 at halftime and finally scored with 6:36 left in the third quarter when quarterback Bryce Burmeister dove over a corner of the end zone on a 10-yard run.
All of the Vikings’ yardage came on the ground as Burmeister didn’t complete a pass in seven attempts and had two interceptions.
L-BF’s longest run came when it only needed inches for a first down as John Reller rushed from midfield for 27 yards to help set up the touchdown drive. Reller ended up as the team’s leading rusher with 76 yards on 16 carries.
Bigfork running back Zac Lovdahl scored the game’s opening touchdown on a 51-yard run and added a 75-yard kickoff return for six points in the third quarter.
The Bigfork quarterback, Tony Anselmo, threw for two touchdowns and ran in three more.
The Vikings, who finished the regular season 2-6, are the No. 8 seed in the Section 7 9-man football pairings. On Tuesday, they will travel to Cook to play the No. 1 seed, North Woods, which is undefeated this season at 8-0.
“We need to get a lot better very quickly, and whether that’s going to happen or not, I don’t know,” Bilben said.
In their previous meeting Sept. 9, North Woods had defeated L-BF, 52-18. Bilben said there is lot for the Vikings to focus on, primarily the players’ attitude, going into next Tuesday’s game against the Grizzlies.
“They have to want to come out and play...,” he said. “That’s a hard thing when players don’t want to play.”
