L-BF boys hoops beat MI-B, N-K

Garrett Larson became the all-time leading career scorer in Littlefork-Big Falls boys basketball history Friday night when the Vikings won a road game at Mountain Iron-Buhl, 69-51.

While Larson had 20 points and 20 rebounds to record a “double-double,” Taylor DeLack led L-BF in scoring with 22 points and also had five assists.

Larson, who passed up the Vikings’ boys basketball career point mark of 1,393 set in 1992 by Ryan Paul, is now at 1,435 career points following Tuesday night’s 69-62 road win against Nashwauk-Keewatin.

Larson scored 28 points, while Tyler Vork added 15 and Jeff Fry had eight.

Only two L-BF girls basketball players have scored more career points than Larson. They are Andrea Millerbernd (1,801) and Kelly Hams (1,569).

Falls girls hoops win, L-BF loses

After leading by only two points at halftime, Falls’ girls basketball team ended up winning Tuesday night at Warroad, 67-50.

Hanna Heibel led the Broncos with 23 points, followed by Rachel Foss with 16 and Jenna Vergeldt with 12.

Vergeldt recorded a “double-double” by also hauling in 13 rebounds before fouling out.

Falls improved to 8-3 and next hosts Grand Rapids on Thursday.

On Monday, Littlefork-Big Falls’ girls basketball team matched its lowest point total in a game this season when the Vikings lost at Mesabi East, 64-26.

“We just didn’t play well,” said L-BF head coach John Larson.

Abby Thompson led the Vikings with 10 points, followed by Brooke Millerbernd with eight.

L-BF, which fell to 6-4, hosts Ely next Monday.

Falls girls hockey wins at E-G

After not having played a game since late last month, International Falls’ girls hockey team won 5-2 Tuesday at Eveleth-Gilbert.

Hillary Fox, Abbey Fox, Jordan Bright, Katie West and Amy Auran each scored goals for the Broncos, who improved to 9-6.

Falls outshot the Golden Bears, 38-20.

Keanna Carlson had 18 saves to record the victory in goal.
