Silver Bay beats Falls girls hockey

Abbey Fox scored the only goal for International Falls’ girls hockey on Friday when the Broncos lost at Silver Bay, 2-1.

The Falls, which had won by the same score in the matchup between the two teams earlier this season at Bronco Arena, outshot the Mariners in the rematch, 34-21.

“We played very well,” said Falls head coach Gerald Bolstad. “We just couldn’t score.”

Sophomore goalie Keanna Carlson recorded 19 saves for the Broncos.

Falls boys hoops win three straight

The International Falls boys basketball team is on a three-game winning streak to improve to 10-4 following last week’s heartbreaking loss at home against Hibbing.

On Friday, the Broncos won at Proctor, 70-41.

Josh Owen led the Falls with 16 points, followed by Ben Humbert with 14 and Gunnar Anderson with 13.

On Saturday, the Bronco reserves saw a lot of playing time in the 75-53 victory at Two Harbors.

Four Falls players scored in double figures led by Matt Buhl with 18 points, followed by Andre McMillion with 17 and Forrest Arch and Ryan Kilbride each with 10.

On Tuesday, the Broncos won big for the second time this season against Eveleth-Gilbert, 82-32.

Falls once again had four players in double figures led by Anderson with 17 points, including five 3-pointers, followed by Humbert with 16, McMillion with 13 and Buhl with 10.

L-BF boys hoops flatten Nighthawks

The Littlefork-Big Falls boys basketball team improved to 6-3 Tuesday night with a with a 69-54 home victory over Northeast Range.

“We played well defensively,” said L-BF head coach Jeff Maish. “Offensively, we struggled to get going.”

The Vikings picked up their offensive game after a low scoring first few minutes and had three players end up in double figures. Garrett Larson scored a team-high 24 points, followed by Taylor DeLack with 20 and Bryce Burmeister with 14.

L-BF girls hoops lose at K/N

Littlefork-Big Falls’ girls basketball team fell behind by double digits early Monday night, then trimmed the deficit to six points at halftime, before losing big on the road to Kelliher/Northome, 76-48.

“We came out slow, and defensively we didn’t play well most of the game,” said L-BF head coach John Larson.

Abby Thompson led the Vikings with 16 points, followed by Brooke Millerbernd with 10.

K/N turned a 29-23 halftime lead into a blowout in the second half, which included controversy over the officiating and Larson being called for a technical foul.

The Vikings, whose season record dropped to 6-7, play at local rival International Falls on Thursday in the first of two games scheduled between the two teams this season.
